Glen Cameron, Group Leader

Dr. Cameron is the Maxine Wilson Gregory Chair of Journalism Research. From 1989 to 1998 he was on the faculty at the University of Georgia where he served as Director of Research for the James M. Cox, Jr., Institute for Newspaper Management Studies. He was also the coordinator of the Yarbrough Public Relations Laboratory, conducting strategic research and communications campaigns for organizations. The author of more than 100 articles, and convention papers, he is the recipient of numerous awards.

 

Ken Fleming

Mr. Fleming has obtained an MBA in Finance from the University of Missouri--Columbia and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Journalism. He has extensive experience in every aspect of applied social science survey research ranging from research design to complex data analysis.

Fritz Cropp

Dr. Cropp taught in the public relations sequence at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University prior to returning to Missouri. His professional experience includes 13 years in journalism, public relations and marketing communications. His dissertation involved international advertising and his master's thesis examined perceptions of public relations practitioners among newspaper journalists. Cropp earned his Ph.D. ('96) in journalism from the University of Missouri, and his M.A. ('90) in communications from California State University. He has been a member of the MU community since 1998.

 

 

María E. Len-Ríos

Ms. Len-Ríos specializes in online survey methodology and survey development for integrated marketing communication efforts. She and Dr. Glen T. Cameron recently completed a study for the Institute for Public Relations and Ketchum Inc. titled "Playing by the Rules: Relationships with Online Users - RATES (Rules-Appropriate Testing Evaluation Scale) and Implications for E-Commerce and Portal Web sites."

As a research analyst Ms. Len-Ríos provides client services for Empiricom.org, develops survey questionnaires, and analyzes data for client reports. She also conducts employs qualitative techniques and works with focus groups. Emphasis in analysis is placed on identifying the client's key audiences, identifying their audience's preferences and determining marketing potential. During her tenure at CASR, she has worked on research reports for Pulitzer Technologies, the Los Angeles Times, the St. Paul Pioneer Press, and the Minneapolis Star Tribune, among others.

Ms. Len-Ríos is a doctoral student at the Missouri School of Journalism. She holds a master's degree from the University of Georgia, and a bachelor's degree from Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota. She is a member of the Association for Internet Researchers (AoIR) and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).

Clyde Bentley

Clyde Bentley will join the University of Missouri as an associate professor in August 2001. He currently is an adjunct professor at the University of Oregon School of Journalism whose research focuses on the usage habits of media consumers. His dissertation from the University of Oregon looked at the impact of habit on newspaper readership.

Bentley worked in the newspaper industry for 25 years before seeking his doctorate. He was a reporter, a copy editor, a managing editor, an ad manager and eventually a general manager. In addition to his UO doctorate, he holds a masters degree in journalism and management from the University of Texas and has completed media management courses at both the Poynter Institute and the American Press Institute. His undergraduate degrees are from Shasta College in Redding, CA, and Pepperdine University in Los Angeles.

Bentley and his wife, Cecile, have two children.

Jin Yan

Jin Yan is a research assistant in the Center for Advanced Social Research. Her field of interest lies in online communication survey, strategic communication research and consumer behavior study.

Jin Yan is a graduate student at the Missouri School of Journalism. She holds a bachelor's degree in advertising from Peking University, P.R.China, where she worked as research assistant in the Advertising Research Institute on online brand equity building, e-business study and Chinese advertising history.

Jin Yan has also worked as art director for UPLINK (the national newsletter of National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting), graphic designer for Invstigative Reporters & Editors, co., and she is currently working as research assistant in the Missouri Arthritis Rehabilitation Research and Training Center.

Zhang Yuyan

Zhang Yuyan, male, was born in East China's Anhui Province in July 1955. With his professional rank as chief editor, he is now deputy director of Guangzhou Daily Press Group's General Office. Having graduated from the Foreign Languages Department of Anhui Normal University and the English Language & Literature School of the Tianjin University of Foreign studies, he used to be associate professor of English and English-Teaching Division director of Guangdong Commercial College. Since 1995, Mr. Zhang has been deputy director of Guangzhou Daily's Science & Culture News Department and deputy editor in chief of the (English-language) Guangzhou Morning Post. From February 1998 to February 1999, sponsored by China Scholarship Council, he did researches on journalism as a senior visiting scholar in America's Missouri School of Journalism.
